There is no public parking at the Richmond O Zone or at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Visitors are encouraged to take transit, walk or bicycle. For tips on travel during the Games, visit TransLink and TravelSmart 2010.

Getting to the Richmond O Zone

Richmond O Zone

Location

Richmond City Centre, from Richmond City Hall (6911 No. 3 Road) through the Library and Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate) and into Minoru Park (7191 Granville Avenue)

Public Gates

  • No. 3 Road at City Hall entrance
  • Granville Avenue by Minoru Gate
  • Minoru Boulevard by the entrance to the Cultural Centre
  • Gilbert Road by Gateway Theatre

No Parking at the O Zone

All parkades and parking lots at City Hall, the Library & Cultural Centre, Minoru Park & Pool, and Gateway Theatre are closed till March 5.
Parking at Richmond Centre is for mall customers only and will be strictly enforced.

Designated Drop-Off Zones

For the general public, disabled, taxis and limousine services:

  • Westbound lane of Granville Avenue between No.3 Road and Gilbert Road
  • Northbound lane of Gilbert Road between Azure Road South and the tennis court entrance
  • Southbound lane of Minoru Boulevard between The Bay entrance and the crosswalk north of Minoru Gate

Road Restrictions and Closures

Minoru Boulevard from Granville Avenue to Minoru Gate:

  • During O Zone operating hours ((Weekdays: 3 - 9pm / Weekends: 12 - 9pm): Closed
  • Outside O Zone operating hours: Two northbound lanes will be closed, with northbound traffic rerouted to the centre lane and southbound traffic in the southbound curb lane
  • The Minoru Gate access road will also be closed

Other lane closures during Games time:

  • Gilbert Road from Elmbridge Way to Azure Road S
  • Cambie Road from No. 3 Road to River Road
  • Elmbridge Way from Gilbert Road to Hollybridge Road
  • No. 3 Road from Richmond-Brighouse Station to Granville Avenue, if needed

From Vancouver
Take the Canada Line (Skytrain) south to Richmond Brighouse Station. It's a 10-minute walk south on No. 3 Road to Richmond City Hall and the East Gate of the O Zone.

Disabled Access

All parts of the O Zone site are accessible. Parking is available at the Aquatic Centre parking lot for users with a disabled parking decal. For drop-off areas, see above.

Richmond Oval

Location

The Richmond Olympic Oval is located at 6111 River Road on the banks of the Fraser River just across from the Vancouver International Airport.

No Parking at the Oval

  • There is no parking at the Oval and there are local road closures. The Richmond dyke trail will also be closed from No. 2 Road to Hollybridge Way between February 4 through February 27, 2010. Alternate cycling routes will be provided.

  • Gates open two hours prior to the competition start time. The entrance gate during Games time is located on the Riverfront Plaza, along the Middle Arm Dyke, on the east side of the Oval.

Designated Drop-Off Zones

General Public:

  • Lansdowne Road, from Gilbert Road to Alderbridge Way (eastbound curb lane): 3 minute drop-off, 24/7 February 8 - 28, 2010
  • Alderbridge Way, from Lansdowne Road to Lane to the South (southbound curb lane): 3 minute pick-up, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., February 8 - 28, 2010

Taxi/Limo:

  • Lansdowne Road, from Hollybridge Way to Gilbert Road (eastbound curb lane): pick-up/drop-off, 24/7 February 8 - 28, 2010
  • Lansdowne Road, from Gilbert Rd to Alderbridge Way (westbound curb lane): taxis stand (no pick-up/drop-off passenger permitted), 24/7 February 8 - 28, 2010

Tour Buses:

  • Elmbridge Way, from Alderbridge Way to lane to the East (eastbound curb lane): pick-up/drop-off, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., February 8 - 28, 2010
  • Alderbridge Way, from Elmbridge Way to lane to the south (northbound curb lane): pick-up/drop-off, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., February 8 - 28, 2010

Traffic Restrictions Near the Oval



  • River Road from No. 2 Road to Hollybridge Way will be closed to public vehicles from February 2 through March 1, 2010
  • Hollybridge Way from Landsdowne to River Road will be closed to vehicle traffic from February 2 through March 1, 2010
  • River Road from Hollybridge Way to Cambie Street will be open to local vehicle traffic only
  • The Richmond dyke trail will also be closed from No. 2 Road to Hollybridge Way between February 4 through February 27, 2010. Alternate cycling routes will be provided.

Getting to the Oval by Bus, Train, and on Foot

Canada Line (Skytrain)
Take the Canada Line (Skytrain) to one of the following stations:

  • From Brighouse Station, catch the C94 shuttle bus to the Oval
  • Walk from Aberdeen station, about a 25-minute (1.5 kilometre) route along the Middle Arm Dyke Trail to the entrance of the venue. See venue map and Google map (more detailed). There will be wayfinding signage from the Aberdeen Station. The pedestrian route is well marked and enhanced with benches, accessible play stations and viewpoints.
  • Walk from Lansdowne station, about an 18-minute walk. See venue map and Google map (more detailed).
  • Speed skating event ticket holders are encouraged to travel to the Oval via the Canada Line (Skytrain) using the transit passes included in tickets.

On Foot
Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. The entrance gate during Games time is located on the Riverfront Plaza, along the Middle Arm Dyke, on the east side of the Oval.

  • Pedestrians should approach the Oval either via the Middle Arm Dyke Trail from the east (see Google map), or from Westminster Highway to Elmbridge Way and Hollybridge Way from points west and south (see Google map).
  • There will be wayfinding signage from the Aberdeen Station on the Canada Line to the Middle Arm Dyke Trail. The pedestrian route is well marked and is enhanced with benches, accessible play stations and viewpoints.
  • The Richmond O Zone is a 15-minute walk down Hollybridge Way, Elmbridge Way and Gilbert Road to the Gilbert Road (west) gate. Traffic control personnel and wayfinding signs will help Oval spectators make their way to the O Zone after competition is over.
  • City shuttle buses to the O Zone will be available one half hour before and 1.5 hours after the end of Oval competition. Loading is on Lansdowne Road, from Hollybridge Way to Gilbert Rd (westbound curb lane). See map.

By Bus, Within Richmond

  • Take any local bus going to Richmond-Brighouse Canada Line Station and transfer to the C94 shuttle to/from Richmond-Brighouse Station. There is a five-minute walk from the closest bus stop at Elmbridge Way and Hollybridge Way.
  • The 401 and 407 also stop at Westminster Highway and Gilbert Road, which is a 10-minute walk to/from the Oval.

By Bus, From Burnaby

  • Take bus 430 to Richmond-Brighouse Station, transfer to the C94 shuttle to/from Richmond-Brighouse Station. There is a five-minute walk from the closest bus stop at Elmbridge Way and Hollybridge Way.

By Bus, From North Delta/Surrey

  • Take bus 301 to No. 3 Road/Cook, transfer to the C94 shuttle to/from Richmond-Brighouse Station. There is a five-minute walk from the closest bus stop at Elmbridge Way and Hollybridge Way.

By Bus, From Ladner

  • Take bus 404 to Richmond-Brighouse Station, transfer to the C94 shuttle to/from Richmond-Brighouse Station. There is a five-minute walk from the closest bus stop at Elmbridge Way and Hollybridge Way.

City Shuttle Buses to the Richmond O Zone

City shuttle buses to the O Zone will be available one half hour before and 1.5 hours after the end of Oval competition. Loading is on Lansdowne Road, from Hollybridge Way to Gilbert Rd (westbound curb lane). See map.

Disabled Access

  • The C94 shuttle bus operated by Translink, provides service between the Bridgeport Canada Line Station and the Oval and is fully accessible. The closest bus stop at Elmbridge Way and Hollybridge Way is a short distance (five-minutes on foot) from the Oval.
  • Handy Dart: door-to-door, bookable, shared ride service for people with physical or cognitive disabilities who need assistance to use public transit. Registration is required.

Travel by Bicycle

Be sure to wear a helmet at all times--it's the law--and wear reflective clothing and use a light when travelling by bicycle at night.

  • The City of Richmond is providing bike racks at the Oval for cyclists, on River Road, east and west of the venue, and within the WorkSafe BC site (6951 Westminster Highway) which can be accessed off Elmbridge Way.
  • To reach the Oval by bike from Vancouver, bike over the Canada Line, Arthur Laing, Oak Street or Knight Street Bridges.
