Warrior Zanette shuts down foes
The Richmond Warriors are going to the district playdowns.
The 88 girls fastball team posted back-to-back shutouts over the 86 Expos and 88 Royals last week to reach the Midget C Division District 6 playdowns June 11 and 12 at London Park. The 86 Dynamos will also represent Richmond at the championships.
A 7-0 win over the Expos was a rematch of a house final played earlier in the year. This time, the Warriors played solid team defence and got shutout pitching from Jessica Zanette. Catcher Shannon Painter called a good game and drove in the winning run.
A tight one-run game was broken in the bottom of the sixth when the Warriors scored four runs on a two-out rally. Julie Page, Kelly Shimizu, and Annie Newman (two RBI) brought in key runs. Stephanie Dodge, Jennifer Hillier, Andrea Hillier and Kylie Brookes also made several memorable defensive plays.
Painter, Newman, Kaitlyne Mark and Jennifer Kwan were absent for the game against the Royals, but Katie Kirkpatrick and Nicole Thibeault provided up to be up the challenge. Danielle Fee of the 89 Majik was also asked to play up for the game.
