Traditional B.C. high school boys' basketball power Richmond Colts could be hosting one of the top high school teams in the United States next season.
Colts coach Bill Disbrow says is he negotiating with officials from St. John's of Prospect, Maryland - currently ranked fifth in the nation. St. John's boasts top-rated junior Jason Capel, whose older brother is the captain at Duke University. Their father coaches at Old Dominion.
The Steveston Karate Club will hosts a Goju Kai tournament Saturday at the Steveston community centre.
The annual event, which begins at 9 a.m., is the largest one-day tournament in Canada. Along with competitors from throughout B.C., entries are expected from the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the U.S. and elsewhere in Canada. Steveston's Darren Choo is the national men's champion, while Nao Nakatsuka is the junior national kumite title holder.
The Richmond Cup boys' soccer finals were decided on the weekend, with the North Cougars blanking Central Revolution 3-0 in the senior (Under-19) division.
Other results were as follows: U-17 - West Knights 3 South Athletics 2, U-16 - West Wrestlers 1 West Sonics 0, U-15 - West Dymanos 2 West Rebels 1, U-14 - South Hotspurs 3 West Sting 1, U-13 - Central Rangers 2 South Drillers 1, and U-12 - Central Rebels 5 South Cyclones 2.
