Fall is a time for crisp weather, falling leaves, and sometimes, the realization that your cold-weather wardrobe just won't take you through another season. Discovering what's new in Fall and Winter fashion is a breeze on the World Wide Web. What's more, the fashion industry offers some of the best-designed Internet sites around, so even window shopping is fun.

One of the slickest fashion sites is Fashion Planet, an online magazine and news network with correspondents in New York, London, Paris, and Milan. This Fall, Fashion Planet suggests investing in some stiletto heels, slouchy pants, boots with pointed toes, and big rings with semiprecious gems. Designer bags and power suits are back, and the colour of the moment is grey.

CNN's Style page features press releases about major design houses and other news, as well as video clips. Fashion Internet has highlights of the Fall '97/Winter '98 collections from Paris in its Catwalk Coverage section .

For people unsure about how to update their look, Style Experts comes to the rescue. Well-known models, designers and image-makers take questions by e-mail and publish the answers. Teenagers interested in modelling careers can link up with supermodel Niki Taylor for the inside scoop; designer Todd Oldham has suggestions for spicing up a drab wardrobe.

The comprehensive site for Canadian fashion is the Internet Centre for Canadian Fashion and Design. There are links here to everything from accessories to designers to shows, from modelling agencies to fashion television.

Men's sites are fewer and further between than women's, but a sneak peek at Giorgio Armani's Collections for Men gives a sense of the direction for menswear this season. For a report on fashion direct from London, check out the U.K. version of Esquire magazine at .

Sites providing lots of fashion links include the Internet Centre for Canadian Fashion (click on the "Fashion" link) and The Lipstick Page. This column and its links can be accessed from the Internet version of the Richmond Review, found on Richmond Public Library's home page. People without Internet at home may drop in or reserve free-use Internet stations at the library. To reserve, call Brighouse (Main) Branch at 231-6415 or Steveston Branch at 274-2012. Comments and suggestions for future columns may be e-mailed column@yourlibrary.ca.
