KUSCH HONORED

A local soccer player made not only a major impact with Vancouver 86ers this season, but in the A-League as well. Richmond's Garret Kusch was recognized Thursday as the first-team midfielder/forward for his stellar season with local professional soccer club. He was also the league's assist leader with 10 in 22 games. Kusch also completed the season with 10 goals for 30 points. Dominic Mobilio was the only other 86er to be recognized, being named to the A-League's second all-star squad.

LUNG TREK

Seven Richmond cyclists rode 200 kilometres through the Fraser Valley recently in support of the B.C. Lung Association's Bicycle Trek for Life & Breath. Jeff Drouin, Art Gaudry, Carlie Holland, Stephen Marsden, Sue McLeish, Philip Ng and Ron Watanabe greatly contributed to the success of the 13th annual trek which has so far raised $170,000 for lung health. "Trekkers are matchless. Their enthusiasm for, and commitment to lung health is greatly appreciated," said B.C. Lung Association volunteer president Richie Gage.

HOCKEY SEASON

Richmond high school girls' field hockey season begins Monday with Burnett Breakers facing McRoberts senior Strikers at Jessie Wowk elementary, while McRoberts' junior team faces London - also a Wowk. Both games begin at 4 p.m.

THANKSGIVING SOCCER

Richmond's Minoru Park will be the site of the Snickers Cup Oct. 10 to 13. The tournament will decide the national under-17 boys' and girls' soccer champions. For more details call 299-6401.
