Raiders rule on peewee gridiron

Richmond Raiders won local peewee football bragging rights Sept. 24 with a 26-14 victory over the Bears in the annual Richmond Cup.
Jordan Knowles led the way with two touchdowns and Marcus Mullen and Warren Jacobs added one each.
"These are always hard-fought games and this one was no exception," coach Norm Knowles said.
Raiders' offensive line of Chris Talbot, Michael White, John Korosec, Jeff Franklin, Arjan Bhullar and Ryan Fiddler played well allowing QB Kevin Charach and slot Arun Mattu and the backs plenty of room to run, he said.
Dylan Epp, Khem Atwall, Mitchell Page and Bo VanderGriendt were standouts on defence.
Earlier in the week, Raiders showed plenty of character to extend their league mark to 4-0 with an 18-6 win over North Surrey.
Down by a touchdown at halftime, the defence led the comeback with Knowles tackling a Surrey back in the end zone for a safety. Epp then came up with an interception and White a fumble recovery.
Newcomer Ben Cooperstone, Arjan Bhullar, Cory Lawson and Brodie Webber helped keep Surrey pinned in their end their entire second half.
Fine blocking by Franklin, Paul Madsen and Fiddler helped pave the way for two offenisve TDs by Knowles and Mullen. Blair Narayan stepped into the kicking shoes of Jacobs and scored two converts.
