Thanks to all the golfers who commented on my 'putting tip' in last week's paper.
I'm glad you are scoring better on the course. One golfer asked me what my favorite putting drill is.
I like to encircle the hole with 10 balls. Use your putter to make sure each ball is one putter length from the hole (about 3 feet). The goal is to sink all 10 in a row. This isn't as easy as it looks and you may be on the green for hours trying to do it.
I like this drill for several reasons. To begin, it forces you to set up to a new putt each time just as you would do on the golf course. If you position the balls on a sloped green, every putt will have a different break. Secondly, this drill makes you set goals. This is an essential ingredient to your improvement. Finally, itŐs fun. Competing with a friend for a small prize will make you concentrate on each putt. I used to have competitions with my Dad and the winner received a milkshake!
Do you have a flaw in your swing or a golf related question? Please contact me at Mikasa Golf Centre (244-1479). I would be happy to write about your question in an upcoming column.
