If you're interested in staying healthy and are willing to try a different way of managing your eating habits, then why not take a look at some new books available at the Richmond Public Library. Eat Right For Your Type by Dr. Peter D'Adamo is a revolutionary program that targets each individual's health needs based on their particular blood type. Depending on whether you are blood type O, A, B or AB, your diet, exercise, medical risk factors and relaxation requirements may vary greatly. While Dr. D'Adamo covers a lot of different medical territory, he basically focuses on nutrition and shows the reader how individual dietary needs are directly related to our blood type. He discusses the correlation between blood type, food and disease and offers advice on which foods promote good health and which ones are harmful; which medications are most effective for particular individuals; which vitamins work best for certain b .ślood types and which ones to avoid; how best to deal with stress; and what the most effective forms of exercise are for your blood type. This groundbreaking book certainly strays from conventional theories on nutrition and diet, but has a lot to offer people who are open to new ways of maintaining and improving health. While I'm on the topic of health and diet, there's a new book out by Barry Sears, author of The Zone, called Zone Food Blocks. Subtitled: The Quick & Easy, Mix & Match Counter For Staying In the Zone, this book also takes an alternative approach to diet. Sears suggests that different foods affect how our hormones function and that diets should therefore be based on this, rather than on caloric content. Serving as a reference guide to the Zone diet, this will give readers the Food Block information they need to stay in the Zone. If you've had enough of diets and you just want a taste of gossip, then pick up The Onassis Women by Kiki Feroudi Moutsatsos. This insider's account, written by Aristotle Onassis's personal secretary, delves into the privileged lives of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Maria Callas, daughter Christina Onassis and Ari himself. Sharing the intimate details of Aristotle Onassis's various turbulent relationships, Moutsatsos gives the reader a glimpse into the opulent decadence of a life most of us can only imagine. Moutsatsos was not only Ari's personal secretary, but over the years became a confidante to his children and a close friend to Jackie Kennedy Onassis. For lovers of biography, glitz and glamour. For those who thrive on adventure and thrills, there's Godforsaken Sea: Racing the World's Most Dangerous Waters by Derek Lundy. Lundy successfully captures the raw excitement, constant tension, fear and pleasure of those who risked their lives to take part in the Vende Globe round-the-world yacht race in the Southern Ocean in 1996-97. Describing gale-force winds, long periods of sleep deprivation, terror and overwhelming odds, Lundy brings to life the story of the fourteen men and two women who put their lives on the line for the Vende Globe race. If you liked the spellbinding, up-close details of Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air, you'll probably enjoy this.
