Local judoka net 8 firsts

Steveston judoka continue to flex their muscles against international competition.

After winning 13 medals at the Abbotsford International Open Nov. 7, local judoka won 10 medals at their Pacific International Junior Judo Tournament held recently at Steveston community centre. Eight of the medals were golds and two silver.

Elizabeth Miyashita won gold in both the juvenile and junior divisions. Other first-place finishers were Justin Imagawa, Victor Selezhiow, Graeme Jones (novice), Eric Tanaka (juvenile), Deborah Teramura and Kim Hikata (junior). Silver medals were earned by Konrad Wasiela and Davin Breen in the juvenile category.

Several Steveston judoka will be competing this weekend at Burnaby's Bonsar Centre in the final tournament for selection to B.C.'s junior judo team.
