Richmond Atom A1s dispatched crosstown rival Seafair 5-2 in minor hockey action last weekend. Peter Weibe scored two goals and Spencer Baines, Ethan Cox and Ben Hockley notched one each. Defensive stars included Michael Taylor, Jeff May and David Downs.
In its next game, Richmond jumped to an early lead, forcing Burnaby Minor A1 to come from behind to salvage a 5-5 tie. Captain Jesse Fratkin led the Richmond team with two goals and an assist. Ben Hockley also scored a pair and Spencer MacLean added a single.
Richmond Novice B Killer Bees tied Northwest Vancouver 7-7 in their ringette home-opener Sunday.
Most of the players played bunny last season and novice presents several new challenges such as penalties, on-the-fly line changes and proper goalie equipment.
Brittany Shannon, Julie Ribi and Alicia Boyce wre among the Richmond scorers while Carlyn Shimizu, Caity Zukiwsky, Leeza Clough and goalie Samantha Leaming also turned in strong efforts for Richmond.
The "Revive the Raiders" campaign is underway. A public meeting is planned 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Best Western Richmond Inn at which time an election of officers will be held. Call 241-0167 for more information.
Richmond field hockey players Colleen Jackson and Genvieve Adams helped UBC win the women's national championship recently. Jackson scored a goal in a 2-0 semifinal win over the University of Toronto, while Adams was named a second-team all-star. UBC blanked Victoria, featuring Richmond's Kristen Taunton, 1-0 in the final game.
