Isles plan awards night

Richmond Islanders program, part of the Richmond Girls' Softball Association, is hosting a Christmas party for all rep players and coaches Friday, at St. Paul's Parish on St. Albans Road .from 7 to 11 p.m.

An awards ceremony will include the selection of an ambassador Islander team.


Canucks win their 12th game of the `season

The Richmond Canucks won their 12th game of the season Sunday S-0 over Burnaby at Kensington Arena.

After a scoreless opening period in which goalie Kootenay Alder stood tall, Richmond netted two goals in the second and added three more in the third ofthe Atom Division hockey game.

Chyna Yim scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season and Evan Fleming, with two, and Chris David, with his 30th, also scored.


UNDER-12 SOCCER:

West Richmond Celtics moved a step closer to a Burrard Cup title Saturday topping the West Vancouver Warriors 4-2 in the Under-12 Division boys' soccer playdowns.

Alex Li scored twice to pace Richmond to its ninth win 11 games. Drew Pellegrin and Ben Feinstein (who played goal in the first half) had the other Celtic markers. Defenders Mark Mathews (who was the second-half keeper) and Stuart Thorsen also played well.


UNDER-12 SOCCER:

Andy McKay scored twice and Brett Scott had two assists to pace the Richmond City United Under-11 Selects to a 31 win over Cliff Avenue Earthquakes in Under-12 boys' soccer Saturday,

The win improved United's league-leading mark to 9-0-3.


GIRLS' SOCCER:

The Richmond Shooting Stars defeated Langley Hurricanes 2-1 Sunday in the Pacific Coastal Cup soccer playdowns.

Kaelen Watson's goal with six minutes to play lifted the local Under-13 Division girls' soccer team to the win, while the Richmond defence of Milana Jasper and Ilana and Adina Carmeli stood tall as Langley attempted to get the equalizer. Keeper Hayley Cameron also had a good game for the Stars.

Elspeth Tate set up the game's opening goal by Charmaine Preston in the third minute. Langley tied it early in the second half.
