All services are provided free of charge by volunteer lawyers. This non-profit society aims to provide quality pro bono legal assistance to those who cannot afford a lawyer or obtain Legal Aid through pro bono clinics throughout BC. Provides 30 minute appointments for legal advice and materials to run the clinics. Lawyers do not represent in court. Offers support groups for adults (19+) from alcoholic, addictive or dysfunctional families. Based on the 12-step program of AA. Meetings take place at two locations in Vancouver. Tuesdays at 7:30pm at Avalon's Womens Centre (5957 W. Boulevard) - it is women only. The other meeting is Saturday at 10:30am at the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre (4255 Laurel Street). AirCare inspects vehicles to ensure their emissions fall within allowable Canadian standards. Centres are open Monday to Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The test fee for 1992 and newer model year vehicles is $45, and for 1991 and older model year vehicles it is $23. All vehicles are charged $23 for a re-inspection. Current wait times are available online.Telephone for more information.

A confidential national registry developed by Alzheimer Canada with the RCMP which helps individuals with Alzheimer Disease return home safely following an episode of wandering. For a one time fee of $35, the Alzheimer Society provides an identification bracelet, a Caregiver Handbook and ID cards. A special registration form for only BC residents will register a person with Safely Home and the BC Photo Registry.

This telephone line provides general information, emotional support, assistance to locate community resources, guidance to access the health care system and mail-outs of literature. It is operated by trained volunteers in English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin and Punjabi.
Arthritis Self-Management Program
This program is available in communities across BC. Facilitated by trained volunteers, the program is offered in six-sessions, two hours once a week for six weeks, and provides people with the knowledge and skills to help them manage their arthritis.

Take Charge! Early Intervention for Osteoarthritis Program

Daily Vacation Bible School
Takes place August for ages 5-12 years old and is run out of the church. There is no cost and the children register on arrival (whether for one day or all three days). Bible stories, games, crafts and other activities are tied together by a theme that changes from year to year.
ESL Classes
Conversational classes for adults taught by others of various backgrounds. Courses often follow material purchased from Vancouver Community College. There is a nominal cost and each quarterly term begins with registration and a test that determines the appropriate level. Classes are divided into levels that range from beginner to advanced. Offered October through May on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00am to noon. Registration begins in September.
Friday Night Children and Youth Activities
A drop-in night of activities, often involving singing, Bible lessons, crafts, games, and a snack. Offered from October through May from 7:30pm-9:00.

Greater Vancouver Business Leadership Network
Provides job placement services to unemployed individuals who are legally entitled to work in Canada, display the potential for competitive employment and have a disability or medical condition that results in a barrier to employment. The program utilizes a corporate development approach to build a coalition of businesses to promote hiring individual with disabilities.
Supported Child Development Program - Vancouver and Burnaby
Assists families of children from 0 - 19 years old with extra support needs to access inclusive child care that meets individual needs. The program also supports child care, preschool and out of school programs to implement and develop inclusive principles and practices to enhance all children’s experiences.
The Opportunities Fund
Provides funding for training, wage subsidy and disability supports to assist individuals with a permanent disability or a medical condition to secure employment or establish self employment. Individuals must have been ineligible for Employment Insurance in the past 3 years.

A non-profit organization that works to prevent elder abuse and to provide assistance and support to older adults that are, or maybe, abused and those whose rights have been violated. Through our community programs and our legal services, we provide programs that educate, support and advocate on behalf of older adults. Our community programs include the Seniors Help and Information Line and the Seniors Reaching out to Seniors program. Our legal services include several legal advocacy initiatives and the Elder Law Clinic, which is the first legal aid clinic for older adults in western Canada. Staff lawyers offer free legal advice and representation to older adults who are eligible for services and have a legal problem that fits into priority areas identified through an extensive community consultation process. After participating in a Legal Consultation, clients who are eligible are referred to the Elder Law Clinic. The eligibility requirements for Elder Law Clinic services are: 55+ years old (or legal representative of someone 55+), not otherwise able to access justice, have experience abuse or have had fundamental rights denied. Our service priority would be to older adults who have experienced abuse or are vulnerable to abuse, including those who have legal issues regarding access to housing, problems with assisted living or long term care, access to government benefits and issues relating to financial abuse.

This program is a peer driven public education program for seniors. Trained senior volunteers deliver financial abuse workshops (ABC's of Fraud and Money Matters) in the community. The ABCs of Fraud is an innovative and informative program that helps seniors become "tough targets" by "getting the facts on fraud". Money Matters is an interactive video workshop that shows seniors how to avoid financial abuse (often by family, friends or caregivers) by using the services available to them at their banks, credit unions or trust companies to protect their money, their property and their independence.

A 15-week course based on the belief that those with a mental illness can and do recover to gain a new and valued sense of self and purpose in accepting and overcoming the challenges of a disability that has affected every aspect of their lives.
Family Education and Support Group
Provides information and support for families of individuals with a mental illness. Meets on the first and third Monday evening of each month in Vancouver.
Family Education Program
A free 12-week course for families of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. It focuses on schizophrenia as well as other major psychiatric illnesses. Through the course, family members gain knowledge and skills to cope with their mentally ill relative. Co-sponsored with the Canadian Mental Health Association Richmond branch.
Family Respite Services
Offers approximately 80 hours of service per year, or the equivalent in funding, to caregivers in need of respite. The program is open to people of all ages suffering from a mental illness, as well as to children of a parent with a mental illness.
Kids in Control Support Group
Program designed to provide information, education and support to children eight to thirteen years of age who have a parent with a serious mental illness.
Partnership Education
A Partnership presentation consists of a panel of three guest speakers - a person with a psychiatric diagnosis, a family member, and a mental health professional. Each describes their experience with mental illness.

BC Teen Challenge is a faith-based rehabilitation program for young men and women, ages 19 and over. We recognize that addiction can take numerous forms, and is not just limited to drug and alcohol abuse. The program is residential-based, and is usually completed in 12 to 18 months. The program is funded entirely through donations, and offers spiritual, academic and vocational training, equipping individuals to return to society as responsible citizens. There are currently three centres in operation in BC a men’s centre in Chilliwack, a woman’s centre in Abbotsford, and a men’s centre in the Okanagan.

Located at the south foot of Railway Ave., this national historic site is a rare example of the once-thriving fishing industry with its mix of cultures, canneries, boatyards, stores and homes. Consisting of 12 buildings, some dating back to 1845, Britannia offers a glimpse into the lives of the multi-ethnic residents and workers in the canneries and shipyards along cannery row. Britannia offers guided tours and a variety of fun, educational programs for active learners of all ages. Admission to the site and buildings is free. Restoration of fishboat "Silver Ann" is in progress on site Fridays and Saturdays, 10am to 4pm. Visitors are welcome.

CCGA-P, Unit 10 - Richmond operates two Search and Rescue vessels out of Steveston and the North Arm of the Fraser River. Volunteer crewmembers dedicate their time to provide 24-hour Marine Search and Rescue along the Fraser River and out into the Strait of Georgia. In a rotation of crews, members are expected during their one-week rotation to remain within fifteen minutes of the boats to ensure a quick, dedicated response to marine emergencies. Unit 10 - Richmond is routinely one of the busiest Search and Rescue Units in the Pacific Region. It is considered one of the primary response vessels for the Vancouver International Airport in the event of an aircraft going down in the surrounding waters.

The Canadian Diabetes Association organizes summer camps in every province, designed to give young people with Type 1 diabetes the opportunity to experience camp as all children do. Family Support Program
Volunteers offer emotional and practical support to families from across BC and the Yukon whose children have been admitted to BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver. The volunteers assist with transportation, provision of emergency supplies such as clothing and toiletries and help families find the services they need in Vancouver.

Many refugees arrive in Vancouver with minimal resources and face the daunting reality of being homeless. With little knowledge of the services that can provide help and no one they can really trust, refugees are extremely vulnerable when settling into a new country, a new city. The Red Cross First Contact program aims to provide these refugees with the tools that will help prevent further marginalization, distress and exploitation.
Medical Equipment Loan Service
This community-based, volunteer-run program provides short-term loans of basic medical equipment, by donation, to those recovering from surgery or injury, or living with mobility limitations. Last year, 417 volunteers served 20,738 clients, loaning over 48,000 pieces of medical equipment. Available equipment includes mobility aids, bath aids, toileting aids, walking aids, and aids to daily living.

Imperial Landing
Located between the south foot of No. 1 Road and Railway Avenue, this historic waterfront area has become one of the most popular waterfront destinations in Richmond. Extensive redevelopment of the historic area includes townhouses, single family and condominium residences and a developing retail/commercial area. Additional site features include piers, docks, historic from BC Packers Cannery, an extensive interpretation signage program detailing the area's historic significance and serves as an important link between Britannia Heritage Shipyards and Steveston Village.
London's Landing
A historic area at the start of the South Dyke Trail with views of Steveston Island (aka Shady Island) and the historic Cannery Channel. Area highlights include close proximity to historic London Farm, a Bike Terrain Park, fishing float anchored to the pier, picnic tables, washrooms, interpretation signage and parking.
Mitchell Island Pier
Located along the northwest edge of Mitchell Island, this unique pier, once part of an old rail bridge between Vancouver and Richmond, provides views of the working river from as far west as Vancouver's Marpole area to east of the Knight Street Bridge. The pier has a small picnic area in the pocket park at the entrance of the site and features a small group of benches on the pier deck itself.
Public Fishing Piers
Richmond has four public piers; the Sport Fishing Pier at the south foot of No. 3 Road, London's Landing at the south foot of No. 2 Road, the restored CN Barge Pier at the north foot of No. 7 Road and a recently added pier on Mitchell Island at the west end of Twigg Place. Each of these piers offers a unique view of the Fraser River. There are picnic tables at each location. An excellent view of the Fraser River can also be enjoyed from the wharf at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard located at the south foot of Railway Avenue.
Sports Fishing Pier
This fishing pier is located at the south foot of No. 3 Road along the South Dyke, adjacent to the Dogs Off-Leash Park. The pier has panoramic views of the South Arm of the Fraser River, Ladner, Mt. Baker and river traffic. Parking and washrooms are available.

Anonymous support groups for people wanting to strengthen and maintain emotional health, including depression and/or anxiety. This support group is based on the 12-Step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). EA publishes a Big Book that is available at Vancouver, New Westminster and Burnaby Public Libraries. Meetings are held at several Vancouver locations and updated information can be obtained by calling 604-696-1020. There is no fee to attend the meetings and you do not need to be a member to attend.

A non-profit Christian charity that aims at nurturing a new generation of Chinese-Canadian leaders through providing training and volunteering opportunities to young people, develop their leadership potential and a positive community life. Enoch currently has over 40 regular volunteers participating in various teams. The program reduces the risk involved with hiring a young professional and provides career opportunities for graduates. Duty counsel are lawyers paid by the Legal Services Society to help lower income people with their family law problems. If you have a family law issue, you may qualify for help from family duty counsel in Provincial Court or Supreme Court even if you do not qualify for a legal aid lawyer. This is a drop-in service. No appointments are made and people are helped on a first come, first served basis. Counsel is available on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00pm.

Provides professional counselling to families, couples, and individuals. Fees are based on a sliding scale according to your household income. Ask for the intake worker. Services are offered in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Counselling in Richmond takes place in the Caring Place office at 7000 Minoru Blvd.
Family Life Education
Offers parenting and life skills groups and workshops for women, men, and couples. Services offered at an affordable cost with some subsidies available. Workshops and groups are designed to meet specific requests from the community.
Outreach to Chinese Parents
Offers monthly workshops about parenting in a new country. Offers information and hand-outs in Cantonese and Mandarin. An opportunity to learn about other programs and services in the community including counselling, community kitchens and immigrant services. A small fee is charged.
Residential Historical Abuse Program (RHAP)

If you believe you were sexually abused as a child while living in a foster home, group, or any other residential facility operated or funded by the government of British Columbia, you may be eligible for counselling under RHAP. You must currently be living in British Columbia and the abuse must have occurred while under the age of 19. Call for more information.

Provides support, training, mediation, crisis management and direct outreach support to children and families in Richmond. This is a voluntary program that any foster parent in Richmond can access through their Ministry of Children and Family Development Resource Worker.
TASA (Richmond's Trauma and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre)
Provides a variety of services including crisis intervention and long-term counselling for sexually abused children and their families, as well as counselling for women who have experienced sexual and/or physical abuse. Serves as an information and referral service to community resources for victims of childhood sexual abuse. A program of Family Services of Greater Vancouver. Trauma counselling also available through MCFD referrals.

Transitions to Independence

Offers life skills support to youth involved with MCFD transitioning into adulthood. Provides support, counselling, and referrals in a wide variety of life skills areas, including housing, education and employment, personal health, homemaking, and advocacy.
Victim Services Program - Community Based
Provides support and guidance to people who reside in Richmond or are involved with the Richmond RCMP and who have been abused in intimate relationships, sexually/physically assaulted or stalked. Service is also available to non-offending family members. Services offered include: emotional support, informaiton about the Criminal Justice System, court information, orientation and accompaniment, assistance with Crime Victim Assistance forms and Victim Impact Statements.
