All services are provided free of charge by volunteer lawyers. This non-profit society aims to provide quality pro bono legal assistance to those who cannot afford a lawyer or obtain Legal Aid through pro bono clinics throughout BC. Provides 30 minute appointments for legal advice. Lawyers do not represent in court. Richmond clinics can be found at CHIMO Crisis Services (120 - 7000 Minoru Boulevard; 604-279-7077). Program(s):
Roster Program
The Roster Program provides pro bono legal representation services to individuals and non-profit organizations of limited means. Lawyers receive pro bono opportunities by e-mail on a "no obligation to respond" basis, according to their location and areas of practice. Responding lawyers choose the scope of their services and qualify for disbursement funding of up to $2500 per case. The Roster Program provides excellent opportunities for barristers and solicitors alike to gain more in-depth involvement with compelling cases.
Summary Advice Clinic
Lawyers at our legal advice clinics typically volunteer for 2 hours each month as they advise people in up to 4 half-hour appointments. Lawyers receive advance client and case information for each appointment, including the clients name and a brief description of their legal issue, to ensure time for conflict checks and any minimal preparation that may be necessary. Client legal matters are matched according to each lawyers' areas of practice.
Vancouver Civil Chambers Duty Counsel Project
Access Pro Bono operates the Civil Chambers Duty Counsel Project twice per week in Vancouver. On a yearly or twice yearly basis, Access Pro Bono lawyers provide legal assistance and representation to unrepresented low and modest income litigants appearing in civil chambers at both Supreme Court and Court of Appeal levels. As with the Summary Advice Clinics, lawyers receive advance client and case information for each appointment, including the clients name and a brief description of their legal issue, to ensure time for conflict checks and any minimal preparation that may be necessary.

Offers support groups from alcoholic, addictive or dysfunctional families. Based on the 12-step program of AA. Meetings take place at the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre (4255 Laurel Street, Room D160) Saturdays 10:30am. Women’s only meeting every Tuesday at 7:30 pm at the Avalon Women’s Centre in Kerrisdale (5957 West Boulevard in Vancouver). AirCare inspects vehicles to ensure their emissions fall within allowable Canadian standards. Centres are open Monday to Saturday, from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The test fee for 1992 and newer model year vehicles is $45, and for 1991 and older model year vehicles it is $23. All vehicles are charged $23 for a re-inspection. Daily Vacation Bible School
Takes place August for ages 5-12 years old and is run out of the church. There is no cost and the children register on arrival (whether for one day or all three days). Bible stories, games, crafts and other activities are tied together by a theme that changes from year to year.
ESL Classes
Conversational classes for adults taught by others of various backgrounds. Courses often follow material purchased from Vancouver Community College. There is a nominal cost and each quarterly term begins with registration and a test that determines the appropriate level. Classes are divided into levels that range from beginner to advanced. Offered October through May on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00am to noon. Registration begins in September.
Friday Night Children and Youth Activities
A drop-in night of activities, often involving singing, Bible lessons, crafts, games, and a snack. Offered from October through May from 7:30pm-9:00.

The BCFFPA Insurance Rider is available to all foster parents in BC. Those individuals who foster for community agencies or bands may purchase the rider for a fee of $115.00 per year, provided they are a member of either the BCFFPA or the FAFP. BRIDGES Program
A 15-week course based on the belief that those with a mental illness can and do recover to gain a new and valued sense of self and purpose in accepting and overcoming the challenges of a disability that has affected every aspect of their lives.
Family Education and Support Group
Provides information and support for families of individuals with a mental illness. Meets on the first and third Monday evening of each month in Vancouver.
Family Education Program
A free 12-week course for families of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Focuses on schizophrenia as well as other major psychiatric illnesses. Through the course, family members gain knowledge and skills to cope with their mentally ill relative. Co-sponsored with the Canadian Mental Health Association Richmond branch.
Family Respite Services
Offers approximately 80 hours of service per year, or the equivalent in funding, to caregivers in need of respite. The program is open to people of all ages suffering from a mental illness, as well as to children of a parent with a mental illness.
Kids in Control Support Group
Program designed to provide information, education and support to children eight to thirteen years of age who have a parent with a serious mental illness.
Partnership Education
A Partnership presentation consists of a panel of three guest speakers - a person with a psychiatric diagnosis, a family member, and a mental health professional. Each describes their experience with mental illness.
Partnership Puppeteer Program
"Brother Where Are You" puppet shown to students to give accurate information and dispel myths and misunderstandings about mental illness.

BC Teen Challenge is a faith-based rehabilitation program for young men and women, ages 19 and over. We recognize that addiction can take numerous forms, and is not just limited to drug and alcohol abuse. The program is residential-based, and is usually completed in 12 months. The program is funded entirely through donations, and offers spiritual, academic and vocational training, equipping individuals to return to society as responsible citizens. There are currently three centres in operation in BC: a men’s centre in Chilliwack, a woman’s centre in Abbotsford, and a men’s centre in the Okanagan.

Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds is a group mentoring program that encourages physical activity, healthy eating and the development of a positive self-image among girls aged 11 to 14. This eight-week, after school program is led by female volunteer mentors (aged 19-25) in our partner schools (currently only operating in Coquitlam).
Study Buddy Program
The Study Buddy tutoring program matches girls (ages 7-17) with female volunteers (age 19+) who offer them educational guidance and support, outside of school. Study Buddies meet for one hour a week for a minimum of 6 months to help the Little Sister reach her academic goals.

CCGA-P, Unit 10 - Richmond operates two Search and Rescue vessels out of Steveston and the North Arm of the Fraser River. Volunteer crewmembers dedicate their time to provide 24-hour Marine Search and Rescue along the Fraser River and out into the Strait of Georgia. In a rotation of crews, members are expected during their one-week rotation to remain within fifteen minutes of the boats to ensure a quick, dedicated response to marine emergencies. Unit 10 - Richmond is routinely one of the busiest Search and Rescue Units in the Pacific Region.

Family Support Program
Volunteers offer emotional and practical support to families from across BC and the Yukon whose children have been admitted to BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver. The volunteers assist with transportation, provision of emergency supplies such as clothing and toiletries and help families find the services they need in Vancouver.

Many refugees arrive in Vancouver with minimal resources and face the daunting reality of being homeless. With little knowledge of the services that can provide help and no one they can really trust, refugees are extremely vulnerable when settling into a new country, a new city. This community-based, volunteer-run program provides short-term loans of basic medical equipment, by donation, to those recovering from surgery or injury, or living with mobility limitations. Last year, 417 volunteers served 20,738 clients, loaning over 48,000 pieces of medical equipment. The Canadian Federation of University Women Richmond meets monthly in the Pavilion at the Richmond Nature Park. Each general meeting features a speaker and a short business meeting. In addition, the club has a wide variety of interest groups and committees which meet weekly or monthly in members' homes or in the community. Membership in CFUW - Richmond is open to women who have post secondary education. There is also an Associate Membership category for women who support the goals of CFUW (Action, Advocacy and Education) but do not have post secondary education. In addition, a Student Membership category is available for women attending a Canadian post secondary institution.

Located between the south foot of No. 1 Road and Railway Avenue, this historic waterfront area has become one of the most popular waterfront destinations in Richmond. Extensive redevelopment of the historic area includes townhouses, single family and condominium residences and a developing retail/commercial area. Additional site features include piers, docks, historic from BC Packers Cannery, an extensive interpretation signage program detailing the area's historic significance and serves as an important link between Britannia Heritage Shipyards and Steveston Village.
London's Landing
A historic area at the start of the South Dyke Trail with views of Steveston Island (aka Shady Island) and the historic Cannery Channel. Area highlights include close proximity to historic London Farm, a Bike Terrain Park, fishing float anchored to the pier, picnic tables, washrooms, interpretation signage and parking.
McDonald Beach Boat Launch Ramp

Mitchell Island Pier
Located along the northwest edge of Mitchell Island, this unique pier, once part of an old rail bridge between Vancouver and Richmond, provides views of the working river from as far west as Vancouver's Marpole area to east of the Knight Street Bridge. The pier has a small picnic area in the pocket park at the entrance of the site and features a small group of benches on the pier deck itself.
No. 3 Road Sports Fishing Pier
This fishing pier is located at the south foot of No. 3 Road along the South Dyke, adjacent to the Dogs Off-Leash Park. The pier has panoramic views of the South Arm of the Fraser River, Ladner, Mt. Baker and river traffic. Parking and washrooms are available.
Public Fishing Piers
Richmond has four public piers; the Sport Fishing Pier at the south foot of No. 3 Road, London's Landing at the south foot of No. 2 Road, the restored CN Barge Pier at the north foot of No. 7 Road and a recently added pier on Mitchell Island at the west end of Twigg Place. Each of these piers offers a unique view of the Fraser River. There are picnic tables at each location. An excellent view of the Fraser River can also be enjoyed from the wharf at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard located at the south foot of Railway Avenue.

The Credit Counselling Society is a non-profit credit counselling service that teaches people about money management and using credit carefully. Counsellors can show people what to do if they have debt and can offer assistance in the office or over the phone. Counselling appointments focus on managing individual situations and are free of charge.
