Apply for a Library Card
A full access library card will give you complete access to our physical and digital collections*. To pick up your library card, visit any branch with a piece of personal identification and proof of current address.
An instant access digital library card will give you temporary access to our digital collections*! The card will be active for 60 days and you will need to visit any branch with a piece of personal identification and proof of current address to continue access thereafter. Once your identification is verified, you will be given a library card with permanent access to our physical and digital collections*.
*Please note some digital collections are restricted to Richmond residents only.
Any Identification card with a photograph issued by the government is accepted. If your current address is not included on the card, please bring a secondary proof of address with you. This includes both physical and electronic banking or billing statements that contain both your name and address.
Any identification card issued by the government is accepted or a student card issued by a secondary school is accepted.
Any identification card issued by the government is accepted for children under 13 years old and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when registering for a library card in person.
