The laser cutter lets you cut and etch projects on wood and cardboard. Staff are working hard on bringing this exciting new Creation Station to our community.

A laser cutter uses a thin and focused laser beam to burn away materials to cut or etch a design.
TThe Richmond Public Library has a Muse 3D laser cutter at Brighouse Library.
Inkscape is loaded on the laser cutter creation station. There are also links to free SVG libraries.
You can create intricate and beautiful designs using the laser cutter’s cut and etch features. People are using the laser cutter creation station to create personalized decorations, bookmarks, coasters and jewelry more. At the library the laser cutter can be used on cardboard and 1/8” Baltic Birch plywood available through the library.
Anyone with a free Full Access Richmond Public Library Card can use our library’s equipment, physical collections, programs and services. Members who wish to laser cut their own custom designs may send their files to the library after completing an online laser cutter certification or attended an in-person certification session. Customers younger than 15 years old cannot get certified yet and should participate with the aid of their guardian or family member 15 years and older that has gotten fully laser cutter certified.
When you book the laser cutter for your design, the price depends on how much material you use. It costs 25 cents per minute of laser time and material costs.
10”x12” plywood – $5
20”x12” plywood – $10
10”x12” cardboard – $2
20”x12” cardboard – $4
The time it takes depends on the size and complexity of your model. Most projects will take between 5 minutes to an hour. The maximum cut time for projects is 3 hours.
